WHERE NATURE BECOMES ART
Step into one of the world's most extraordinary landscapes when your cruise ship docks in Saint-Malo. The Pink Granite Coast (Côte de Granit Rose) exists nowhere else like this on Earth - enormous pink granite boulders sculpted by wind and waves into surreal shapes, scattered across beaches and rising from turquoise waters. Combined with the enchanting car-free island of Bréhat, this shore excursion reveals Brittany's wildest natural beauty.
Your certified bilingual driver-guide meets you at your ship's gangway for this full-day adventure into northern Brittany. Experience landscapes so unique they feel otherworldly, walk coastal paths ranked among France's most beautiful, and discover an island where time moves at bicycle speed. All with complete peace of mind - guaranteed timely return to your vessel.
Tour Highlights:
Pink Granite Coast - Natural Wonder
Walk among enormous pink granite formations at Ploumanac'h - one of only three places on Earth with this rare geology. Follow the stunning coastal path (Sentier des Douaniers) where massive boulders balanced impossibly seem to defy gravity. Names like "Napoleon's Hat," "The Witch," and "The Mushroom" describe shapes sculpted over millions of years. The pink color comes from feldspar crystals catching light at sunrise and sunset - absolutely magical. This is bucket-list nature at its finest.
Île de Bréhat - Island of Flowers
Optional ferry crossing to the legendary "Island of Flowers" where cars are forbidden. Bréhat's microclimate allows Mediterranean vegetation to flourish in Brittany - mimosas, agapanthus, eucalyptus bloom year-round. Rent bicycles or walk peaceful lanes past pink granite cottages and hidden gardens. Visit the lighthouse at Paon Point for spectacular views. Experience an island where residents outnumber visitors and authenticity reigns. This is Brittany's secret paradise.
Guaranteed Ship Return - Expert Planning

We monitor your ship continuously, coordinate ferry schedules if visiting Bréhat, and guarantee your return 60-90 minutes before all-aboard time. In 17 years, we've never missed a ship departure. Timing Requirements
This excursion requires minimum 10 hours docked (ideally 11-12 hours) to comfortably experience both Pink Granite Coast and Bréhat. For shorter port calls (8-9 hours), we recommend Pink Granite Coast focus without the island. Share your exact ship schedule when booking, and we'll design the optimal itinerary.
Customize Your Shore Excursion
Enhance your Pink Granite Coast experience with these options:
Bicycle Rental on Île de Bréhat
Best way to explore the car-free island. Bicycles available at ferry landing (€15 for 3-4 hours). Cover more ground, access hidden beaches, reach the lighthouse. Easy cycling on flat terrain. Your guide arranges rentals and provides route suggestions.
Photography Workshop Focus
Extra time at best photo locations with lighting and composition guidance. Pink granite at sunrise/sunset is spectacular. Your guide knows optimal angles and timing. Perfect for photography enthusiasts. Slower pace, more photo opportunities.
Extended Coastal Walking
Walk longer sections of the GR34 coastal path. More challenging trails with spectacular viewpoints. Discover hidden coves and beaches beyond main tourist areas. For active travelers who love coastal hiking.
Gourmet Seafood Lunch Reservation
Pre-booked table at premium seafood restaurant with ocean views. Enjoy fresh local catch, oysters from Paimpol, Breton specialties. Your guide recommends best restaurants and handles reservations.
Oyster Farm Visit
Stop at working oyster farm near Paimpol. Learn cultivation techniques, taste fresh oysters with views over production beds. Understand why this region produces exceptional shellfish. Subject to availability and timing
Not Recommended Combinations
Due to distance (1.5 hours each way) and time needed to appreciate both destinations, we don't recommend combining Pink Granite Coast/Bréhat with other major sites (like Mont Saint-Michel) on the same day. Each deserves full attention. For multi-destination desires, consider separate shore excursions if your cruise has multiple Saint-Malo port calls.
Exceptional (Based on 34 cruise passenger reviews)
Cruise passengers are amazed by this lesser-known treasure. The unique geology, island charm, and natural beauty create unforgettable memories beyond typical European ports.

Before you book
No two days are the same. Here is where prices start, what moves them, and what is worth knowing before you book.
- How much does the Pink Granite Coast and Bréhat shore excursion cost?
- Half-day tours start from €650 and full-day tours from €900, per vehicle for the whole group of 1 to 7 passengers, never per person. Most quotes come in above these figures, depending on your group size, the season (April to October is peak), where we collect you and where we drop you off, and whether you book an English-speaking driver or a certified driver-guide. Send us your dates and those details and we confirm an exact, all-inclusive figure before you commit. The price we quote is the price you pay, with nothing added afterwards.
- Is this tour priced per person or per vehicle?
- Per vehicle, for the whole group, never per person. One quoted price covers 1 to 7 passengers in a Mercedes V-Class or similar. A couple and a family of six pay the same for the same day, which means the cost per traveller drops sharply as your group grows.
- What is the difference between a private driver and a driver-guide, and does it change the price?
- In France these are two separate professions, and yes, it changes the price. A private driver holds a professional transport licence and handles transport, logistics and local advice, but is not legally permitted to give guided commentary inside monuments on a tour sold to you. A driver-guide holds both that licence and the national guide-conferencier card, and both drives you and guides you. A driver-guide costs more than a driver alone, and less than hiring a driver and a separate guide, which is a third option, the most expensive, and worth it for larger groups or tightly scheduled days.
- Are the driving times on this page reliable?
- They are the times we count on in ordinary conditions, and they hold for most of the year. They do not hold in July and August, over the May bank holidays, or during French school holidays: the roads through Normandy and Brittany fill up, coaches queue at the popular sites, and everything takes longer, sometimes noticeably. We plan for that rather than hope around it, starting earlier where it matters and reordering stops so you are not arriving somewhere at its worst hour. If your dates fall in a busy period we will tell you when we quote, not on the morning.
- How much luggage can you carry?
- As a rule, one suitcase per passenger. A full vehicle, seven passengers with seven large cases and seven cabin bags, will not fit, and that is not something we can solve on the morning. It is also common for two travellers to arrive with four to six pieces between them, which needs a larger van. So tell us how many bags you are bringing, and roughly what size, when you request your quote: we confirm the right vehicle, or arrange a second one, before you book. Luggage is the detail most often forgotten and the only one that cannot be improvised.
- What is included, and what is not?
- Included: private transport with your driver, your driver-guide, or a driver and a separate guide, whichever option you choose, plus fuel, tolls and parking. Entrance fees depend on the format you choose: with a certified driver-guide they are often included, the abbey at Mont Saint-Michel in particular, while with an English-speaking driver alone they are usually added. In every case your quote states in writing which fees are included and which are added, and if you would like them included you only have to ask. Meals and personal expenses are not included, so you stay free to choose. Anything added on the day is quoted before it happens, never after.
- Will Belinda be my guide?
- Most days, yes, I guide myself, and that is how I prefer to work. When my dates are already taken, or when your group needs a second vehicle, I hand you to a driver-guide or local driver I have worked with for years and chosen myself. I tell you who is coming with you as soon as I know, and always before the day itself. And if having me personally matters to you, say so when you enquire: I will tell you straight away whether your dates are free.

September 2024 - Holland America"After 30+ cruises, this was our most unique shore excursion ever. The pink granite formations are absolutely surreal - we couldn't stop taking photos. Then Bréhat island was like stepping into a fairy tale. Cycling around a car-free island with flowers everywhere, pink cottages, and stunning views - magical! Our guide's timing was perfect, never felt rushed, got back to ship with plenty of time. Highly recommend for anyone wanting something truly different."

August 2024 - Princess Cruises"We wanted to see something different from the usual European port stops. The Pink Granite Coast exceeded all expectations! Walking among those giant pink boulders felt like being on another planet. Our teenagers who usually complain about sightseeing were completely engaged. July 2024 - Celebrity Cruises"As a geologist, I specifically chose this excursion to see the rare pink granite formations. Belinda's knowledge of the geology was impressive - she explained everything perfectly. The formations are even more spectacular in person than photos suggest. Bréhat was a lovely bonus - such a peaceful, authentic island. The whole day felt special and unique. Worth every penny for this private, personalized experience."
